Located at an altitude of 1800 meters, the Plagne 1800 station is located on the site of a former silver lead mine. Until the 1960s, the village housed accommodation for miners, a canteen and administrative offices for the mine. The Charles-Albert gallery, the main entrance to the mine, was located right next to the bar "La Mine" in the center of the Plagne 1800 station. Part of the mine was also rehabilitated in 2011 to make it a museum .
Bobsleigh was the big sport in the village. For many it is no coincidence that La Plagne was chosen to install the Olympic bobsleigh track. There has always been a real local tradition of bobsleigh and tobogganing. Competitions were organized on the roads between the mine canteen and the village of La Roche, below, where the ore was processed.
In 1975, the land left free by the disused mines was deemed suitable for the installation of a new ski resort. The first residences were built in 1980 in a mountain spirit followed by the construction, on the upper part of the village, of pretty private chalets, such as Chalet Dakota. The station opened in 1982.
Very accessible, Plagne 1800 benefits from the softness of a forest environment and unspoiled architecture, which today make it one of the prettiest resorts in the Paradiski area.
